What changed
What has changed in AffordMath, and where it matters to you.
This lists changes a reader would notice: a figure that moved, a rule that was corrected, a page that appeared. Where a change concerns only some places, the entry says which.
Sources, in plain words
- Sources explains each figure in a sentence or two of plain words, not in our verification notes. See it
French punctuation, Québec style
- French pages space punctuation the Québec way, as the Office québécois de la langue française recommends.
Winnipeg: school divisions, tax credit up to $1,600
- Choose your school division: Winnipeg's property tax differs by about 14% across the eight. See it
- Property tax is shown after Manitoba's Homeowners Affordability Tax Credit, up to $1,600 a year. See it
- The utility-setup estimate is $300, rebuilt from published utility charges; the old $3,000 matched none of them. See it
- Typical prices follow WinnipegREALTORS' August 2026 averages: $439,216 for a house, $283,715 for a condo. See it
- Manitoba's 2027 transfer-tax change covers bare-trust transfers, not an ordinary purchase; the tax line now says so. See it
- Winnipeg's registration fees no longer say the province charges no transfer tax, which Manitoba does. See it
Affects: Winnipeg
Answers first, and a way back to your numbers
- A first visit opens no section: the answer comes first, and nothing red is built on numbers you have not given.
- Every tool has an “Adjust your numbers” link from the answer to the fields that change it.
- Affordability warns when the budget it assumes is more than your monthly income, and asks for yours. See it
- Affordability's math column now multiplies out to the price it shows. See it
- Closing Costs leads with the closing costs; cash to close, down payment included, sits beside it. See it
- Amortization's renewal rate is one choice at the top of its section. See it
RRSP refunds use each province's 2026 tax brackets
- RRSP-HBP refunds and the cost of drawing on an RRSP use each province's 2026 tax brackets, tax-free basic amount included. See it
- Ukrainian text uses one typeface throughout.
Readable sources, keyboard use, clearing your numbers
Affordability now names the lender's limit first
- When a lender would approve less than you could comfortably carry, Affordability now says so first. See it
- The “Assuming…” tag now jumps to the monthly budget it assumes, which moved to the first group of fields. See it
- Rent vs Buy answers straight away using the published apartment rent, clearly labelled, and asks for yours. See it
- Returning with saved numbers no longer makes the page jump while they load.
- A mistyped address now gets a proper page in your language instead of a bare error.
- This page, and a quiet note in the footer that points to it when something changes. See it
RRSP-HBP no longer assumes a $60,000 contribution
- RRSP-HBP: the contribution now defaults to the lower of the annual RRSP limit and 18% of income; enter yours to replace it. See it
Closing costs say what the totals include
- Affordability: the lender limit is now marked at its own value on the gap band, not at the right edge. See it
- Closing Costs and Down Payment now say plainly which totals include the down payment and which do not. See it
- Down Payment shows “Not entered yet” for accounts you have not filled in, instead of $0. See it
- Scenarios now leads with your own down payment column, so its figure matches Affordability. See it
Phone header fits; number fields show every decimal
- On phones the header no longer overlaps; a long place name is shortened inside its own control.
- Every control now shows the same keyboard focus outline.
- Number fields show every decimal they use: 5.25% no longer reads as 5. See it
- Adding a second applicant no longer assumes an income; the field starts empty. See it
United States (Houston) and legal pages
Page addresses now start with the country
- Page addresses now begin with the country and language, for example /ca/en/affordability. The old addresses redirect.
RRSP-HBP 89-day rule corrected
- RRSP-HBP now says 89 days, and that the rule limits deducting a recent contribution, not the withdrawal itself. See it
Rent vs Buy and HBP refund figures corrected
- Rent vs Buy no longer invests for the renter the closing-cost rebates the buyer never has to find up front. See it
- For a house, Rent vs Buy asks for a rent, because the published rents measure apartments. See it
- The RRSP-HBP refund is now worked out band by band, not at the top rate, which overstated it. See it
- Pages that compute an answer can now show the working, one line at a time. See it
Ukrainian and Spanish
- AffordMath is now available in Ukrainian and Spanish. See it
Transfer tax corrected in four places
- Land transfer tax rules corrected for Prince Edward Island, Quebec, Yukon and Newfoundland and Labrador. See it
Affects: Prince Edward Island, Montréal, Yukon and Newfoundland and Labrador
Every figure checked against its source
- Every jurisdiction's figures were checked against the issuing authority's documents; Sources lists each one with its date. See it
AffordMath launched
- The Affordability calculator launched for 14 Canadian places. See it
